David-K has been an avid racing fan since as far back as he can remember, but his broadcasting career did not begin until the mid-Eighties, after his first taste of live motorcycle racing. The speed, sounds, smells and excitement of that one weekend at Willow Springs International Raceway and David was hooked for life.
He quickly got involved in the racing world by joining the AFM (American Federation of Motorcyclists) and ARRA (American Road Racing Association) as a corner marshal and later held every possible position at the track, eventually making his way into the announce booth on the weekends. Meanwhile, during the week, David worked in various roles at an LA area motorcycle shop. In 1987 David began roadracing motorcycles as an amateur, but came back to the booth in 1989. The early days at Willow Springs, working around some of the seasoned veteran announcers was a great training ground for what would become his passion for announcing.
David relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1993 where he continued to hone his on-air skills. However, after living nearly 10 years in the nations racing capitol, David returned to sunny southern California, but not before adding more valuable experience to his ever-growing list of announcing credentials.
Back in California, after rekindling past relationships with track owners, club members, industry experts and racers, David once again found himself announcing motorcycle races at Willow Springs International Raceway. “It’s great to be back at WSIR, where I got my first start.”
So every month, David makes the trek from his home in San Diego to spend the weekend at various raceways throughout the Western US. He makes this trek on a mission to share his passion for motorcycle racing with thousands of fans and enthusiasts. He accomplishes this and more as he provides a smart, high-energy commentary for all the action at the track. At Willow Springs he is known as “The Voice of Willow Springs International Raceway” for all WSMC events including the Toyota 200 and the Roadracing World 250/50 held annually in the fall. In addition, David is the Lead Announcer at Auto Club Speedway for the AMA Suzuki Superbike Challenge Weekend and Infineon Raceway for the Kawasaki AMA Superbike Showdown. David was also the Chief Announcer at the Dunlop/WERA National Endurance Series and Michelin National Challenge Series event held at WSIR in 2006.
His extensive knowledge of racing, unbelievable memory for facts and comfort behind the mic, has helped him become a sought-after announcer and important asset to any racing organization. With ten or more hours per day in the booth, on two to three day weekends, David demonstrates his tireless work ethic and ability to stay excited about each race, as if it were the first of the day. As one listens to David delivering the “play-by-play”, it is obvious that he is not only a dedicated announcer, but a truly passionate race fan.
